Rakesh Sharma works with IFES program staff to oversee the cost-efficient implementation and management of survey, focus group and other research projects. He advises several IFES programs on the use of research tools for project monitoring and evaluation. Sharma evaluates all technical aspects of the research process and conducts analysis for several IFES survey, focus group and other research projects.

He has traveled extensively to ensure IFES' local sub-contractors comply with IFES' research standards. Sharma has worked on over 60 survey and focus group projects for IFES, including surveys in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nigeria, Uganda and West Papua. He has also overseen fieldwork in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, India, Indonesia, Macedonia, Moldova, Nigeria, Pakistan, Uganda and Ukraine. Sharma earned a BA in economics from the University of Western Ontario and an MA in comparative politics from American University.
