IFES Debaters Go Global, Put Afghanistan Debate on the Map

Since IFES piloted Afghanistan’s first-ever university debate program in 2010, over 570 students have been trained in the British Parliamentary debate model across the country. As IFES implements its third year of academic debate, students are competing internationally. This accomplishment is due in part to an effort launched by eight IFES-trained students to facilitate overseas travel.

She is quickly becoming a leading voice of women’s rights advocacy in Guzara District of Herat Province in western Afghanistan.

IFES hosted a conversation about how electoral fraud is defined and how it differs from malpractice. Speakers shared their field experiences and highlight the impact of fraud and malpractice on recent elections in the United States, Afghanistan, Philippines and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
