In Georgia, IFES Convenes Conference on the Political Rights of People with Disabilities
March 14, 2013
Georgians with disabilities face significant social, physical and legislative barriers to equal participation in their country’s electoral and political processes. A significant inhibiting factor for Georgia’s disability community is a lack of awareness. This has contributed to shortcomings in the electoral framework and inadequacies within electoral procedures and administration that are meant to guarantee protection of electoral rights and ensure full and equal access. Against this backdrop, IFES, in partnership with the Coalition for Independent Living (CIL), held a conference on February 27, 2013, to address the barriers that prevent Georgians with disabilities from achieving full political and electoral enfranchisement.
