Wayne Allard

Dr. Wayne Allard has a long, distinguished career as a public servant, holding elected office for 26 years. Dr. Allard, a Board Director at IFES, is the current Vice President of Government Relations for the American Motorcycle Association (AMA). The AMA is a 501(c)4 nonprofit working on legislation impacting more than 22 million motorcycle and ATV riders at the international, federal and state level.

He represented Colorado in the U.S. Senate for 12 years (1997-2009), in the House of Representative for six years (1991-1997), and served in the Colorado Senate from 1983-1991. As a member of Congress, he took part in a number of delegation visits to NATO countries, participated in NATO policy debates and visited U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Following elected public service, Senator Allard founded the public relations firm Wayne Allard Associates, LLC and the Prion Research Institute to address Chronic Wasting Disease problems in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Prior to serving in elected office, Dr. Allard was Chairman of the Larimer County Board of Health and Chair of the Loveland Chamber of Commerce Public Affairs Committee. He was a charter member of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners-Companion Animals. Dr. Allard was also a Guardian member of the National Federation of Independent Businesses.

Dr. Allard graduated from Colorado State University in 1968 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Following graduation he interned in a mixed practice in Kent, Washington, only to return to Colorado in January 1970 to start his own small animal practice certified by the American Animal Hospital Association. He published several scientific articles while in practice and published a book while in the U.S. Senate.
