Myanmar 2015 General Elections Fact Sheet

On November 8, 2015, Myanmar will hold general elections. Voters will elect a total of 1,171 representatives to Myanmar’s national Parliament and State and Region Assemblies. In the months following the election, the national Parliament will vote to elect a President.

The 2015 elections will be an important milestone in Myanmar’s democratic transition. Approximately 30 million people are eligible to vote in this upcoming election, and, for many of them, this will be their first time voting. The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) developed a fact sheet to answer critical questions about the electoral process.

IFES' Myanmar 2015 General Elections Fact Sheet provides an overview on:

  • Who will Myanmar voters elect in the 2015 elections?
  • How will the President be elected?
  • What institution is responsible for administering elections? What are its roles and responsibilities?
  • What new procedures were introduced for the 2015 elections?
