IFES engages in a variety of civic education activities, including informing voters of their rights and responsibilities and empowering them to have a voice in the way they are governed. IFES uses a variety of innovative methods to reach citizens in rural and urban areas to raise their understanding and awareness of voting, elections, government, and the rights and responsibilities that each and every citizen has in a democracy. Ensuring Electoral Transparency and Integrity in Egypt: the Need for a Permanent, Independent Electoral Management Body
Egypt’s January 2014 constitutional referendum process faced heavy scrutiny. The much-watched poll took place amid an aggressive crackdown on political dissent following the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013. Campaigning was largely in favor of approving a new constitution. The result of the referendum – which saw 98.1 percent voter approval with 38.6 percent voter turnout – was largely expected.

Nigerian Study Tour Brings Delegation to D.C.
IFES and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) organized a study mission for high-ranking members of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and INEC’s Electoral Institute from January 11-17 in Washington, D.C.
