Puerto Rico General Election Ballot 1996
Ballot used for the 5 November 1996 Puerto Rico General Election. This ballot was used to elect the Governor of Puerto Rico and the Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico. Voters could either vote for a party list or individual candidates. The main parties in the election were the Partido Nuevo Progresista, the Partido Popular Democratico, and the Partido Independentista Puertorriqueno.

This booklet was published in Los Angeles, California in lead up to the November 5, 1996 presidential election between incumbent Democrat Bill Clinton and Republican Nominee Bob Dole. The piece was designed as a tool for media people to use to assist their election coverage. Some of the sections the booklet includes are a summary of the partisan candidates on the ballot, a section on the numbers of votes required to elect candidates and a section on historical rates of turn out in California general elections.

An Overview of the Easy Reader Voter Guide
This pamphlet summarizes the “Easy Reader Voter Guide,” which provides a non-partisan breakdown of state wide races and ballot measures in hopes of facilitating voters’ decision making. The guide provides a description of California’s eight political parties as well as statements and photographs of 1996’s presidential candidates. The guide was used by business leaders, senior groups, civil organizations and “County Voter Registrars.” “Easy Reader Voter Guide” was published in 1996 during the lead up to that year’s November 5 local elections and presidential election between incumbent Democrat Bill Clinton and Republican Nominee Bob Dole.

Truth Talk
This is the November 1996 edition of South Africa’s “Truth Talk,” a publication of the country’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The magazine focuses on reparations for civil rights violations of the past and includes a piece by Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu, the Commission’s chairperson. There is also a section on individuals’ reactions to the work of the Commission. A second topic of this magazine was the granting of amnesty to South African’s who had perpetrated human rights violations while under orders. This piece was published two years after the 1994 elections in South Africa, the first to feature universal adult suffrage.
