Elections in Serbia: 2016 Early Parliamentary Elections
Serbia was scheduled to hold parliamentary elections in March 2018. However, on January 17 Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić called for snap parliamentary elections on April 24 in preparation for negotiations on Serbia’s accession to the European Union (EU). Local elections will also be held in 17 municipalities in Belgrade, and Vojvodina will elect a new Assembly.

This health crisis has resulted in more than 1,350 reported deaths so far in a region that has been moving steadily toward peace and democratization. In India, Maoist rebels killed 14 people in attacks in Chhattisgarh state as part of a campaign of violence aimed at disrupting the ongoing five-week national election in the world’s most populous democracy. Similarly, in the days leading up to the April 5 presidential election in Afghanistan, the Taliban unleashed a campaign of violence to discredit the electoral process and keep voters from the polls. Many hope this election will be known for delivering the first peaceful transfer of power in the country’s history.

Elections in Serbia: May 6 Presidential, Parliamentary, Provincial and Local Elections
On May 6, Serbian citizens will cast their vote for the next president. Due to President Tadić’s voluntary resignation on April 5, 10 months ahead of the expiration of his term, the presidential election will now take place on the same day as scheduled parliamentary, provincial and local elections.
