Kosovo Taking Steps Toward Gender Equality in Election Administration
The issue of low representation of women among Kosovo's election staff was raised for the first time in March 2014 in IFES' report on gender breakdown of election staff in the 2013 municipal elections. A series of advocacy efforts was carried out to raiss awareness of the benefits of gender diversity in election staff and to encourage the nomination of more women to these positions.

After 22 Years of Service, Anthony Bowyer Remains Committed to the IFES Mission
Reflecting on his 22 years with IFES, Senior Program Manager for the Caucasus and Central Asia Anthony Bowyer still firmly believes that the work of IFES matters. “I would ask younger colleagues to not be daunted by what they are hearing in the news; our work is important and needed, not only in emerging democracies, but here at home as well. Elections in Georgia: 2017 Municipal Elections
On October 21, Georgians will go to the polls to elect their municipal government representatives. Across Georgia, citizens will elect 2,058 council members to 64 local councils (sakrebulos) of self-governing cities or communities. In addition, the mayor of Tbilisi as well as mayors of four self-governed cities and 59 mayors of self-governing communities will be elected directly.

Photo Gallery: 2017 Kyrgyz Republic Presidential Elections
On October 15, the Kyrgyz Republic held presidential elections. This was a historic vote; the first “regular” transition of power from a sitting president who has completed a constitutionally defined term of office to an elected successor. Prime Minister Sooronbay Jeenbekov, who is backed by outgoing President Almazbek Atambayev’s Social Democratic party, won the election with 54.3 percent of the about 1.7 million votes cast.
