Election to the Oliy Majlis, Republic of Uzbekistan: A Technical Review of Law and Process
The purpose of this analysis is to provide a brief overview of the Law on the Election to the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and to provide commentary on some of its strengths and weaknesses. The focus is on the law itself through the view of fresh eyes, and to offer food for thought as officials, administrators and .election participants continue to evaluate the election process from within.

This report documents IFES’ collection of data concerning public opinion in Uzbekistan from 2000. Specifically, this report discusses the preparatory stages of conducting the survey, information collection and the selection and training of interviewers. Public Opinion in Tajikistan: 1996
This first IFES-sponsored survey in Tajikistan analyzes the opinion environment in the country – the views of the public on political and economic developments, independence, government, civil society and organizations, and information sources. Findings are based on the IFES nationwide opinion survey fielded in Tajikistan from November to December 1996. The Executive Summary consists of major findings providing an overview of the survey data. The Appendix includes the full question text and the marginal results in tabular form. The IFES-sponsored survey was fielded in Tajikistan between November 25 and December 13, 1996. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with a sample of 1,500 adults (18 years and older); the sample was of a stratified random probability design (the margin of error is ±2.5% for this kind of sample). Fieldwork and data processing were conducted by the Sharq Sociological Center of Dushanbe. QEV Analytics, a Washington-based research firm, developed the weights and conducted the tabulations. The design of the sample and the weighting ensured that respondents represent the adult national population of Tajikistan and, therefore, the findings accurately reflect the opinions and attitudes of the public in Tajikistan.

Issued by the Electoral Commission of Papua New Guinea in December 1996, the newsletter entitled “Vote in Poll or Shut Up” attempts to encourage PNG citizens to register to vote and participate in the upcoming 1997 general elections. In the newsletter are articles on electoral procedures, campaign information, and cartoons advocating for the importance of voting.

Information Technology Mission: May - September 1996, Bosnia and Herzegovina
This report summarizes IFES’ provision of technical assistance to the Provisional Election Commission (PEC) in Bosnia Herzegovina in 1995. The IFES projects assisted with preparation for the September 14, 1996 National Elections.
This report discusses in detail the USAID-funded project which was the most technologically complex of the IFES projects - an Information Technology Mission whose work began in May 1996 as the OSCE began to realize the importance and necessity of an Information Technology capability within the Sarajevo headquarters.

Belarus Referendum Ballot 1996
Ballot used for the seven-question referendum held in Belarus on 24 November 1996. The first four questions in the referendum were proposed by President Alexander Lukashenko, and the final three were proposed by the Supreme Court. The voters voted on the following:
-Whether Independence Day should be moved to 3 July, to commemorate the liberation of Belarus
-Approval of the constitutional amendments proposed by President Lukashenko
-Approval of the free sale of land
-Abolition of the death penalty
-Approval of the constitutional amendment proposed by the Supreme Soviet
-Direct elections to local bodies
-Should all state expenses be part of the national budget.
