“1986 Voter Information” was produced by the Office of the Election Commissioner of Nebraska in 1986. The piece outlines which offices will be up for vote in the upcoming May 13th primary and November 4th general elections as well as who is eligible to vote and how the voter registration process works. The document also deals with absentee voting, how to register if one has recently changed their name or domicile and also includes a timeline of relevant election-season dates. This would be the second and final round of congressional mid-term elections to take place during the presidency of Ronald Reagan.

The manual discusses how to organize a voter registration drive, different methods of structuring the campaign, press and publicity coverage, materials required and ideas for following up after the drive has been completed. The manual also contains brief historical facts about voting in the U.S and questions and answers about voter registration.

Wyoming Election Guidelines
The August 1984 “Wyoming Election Guidelines” prepared by Wyoming Secretary of State Thyra Thompson begins by specifically addressing procedures for absentee registration and voting in health care facilities to ensure equal voting opportunities. The “Guidelines” proceed to address military and overseas voters as well as general absentee voting issues. Explicit circumstances such as regulations of campaign nomination, dual office holding, candidate withdrawals, and write-in and independent candidates are included alongside basic voter registration information to further educate Wyoming residents.

Getting out the Vote
“Get out the Vote” is a booklet that was created in 1984 by the League of Women Voters. The piece provides instruction as to how to run registration and voting drives. The packet includes a voter registration checklist and a script for phone canvassing. The booklet was released in lead up to the November 6, 1984 election between incumbent presidential candidate Ronald Regan and democratic nominee Walter Mondale, as with American election cycles there was also a congressional election this year.
