Creating Opportunities for Syrians to Shape Their Country’s Transition
Over the last several years, IFES has empowered Syrian women, youth, and marginalized groups to be part of a meaningful discourse over their country’s future. IFES has built the capacity of these groups on key topics and challenges around a democratic transition so they can contribute to policy discussions and advocate for inclusive, democratic practices. IFES has also connected participants with decision makers and transitional leaders to increase two-way dialogue between civil society and Syrian opposition leaders.

Advancing Disability Rights in Southeast Asia through Regional Network of Advocates
In 2011, IFES established the General Election Network for Disability Access (AGENDA) across Southeast Asia. A creative partnership between disabled persons’ organizations (DPOs) and election-focused civil society organizations, AGENDA serves as a forum to improve access to political and electoral opportunities for persons with disabilities by increasing public awareness and elevating advocacy efforts that call for change.

Youth Forums Offer Hope to Young Syrians
In 2016, IFES assisted Syrian organizations based in Gaziantep, Turkey to found Musharaka, a forum to encourage civic engagement of Syrians living in Gaziantep. Through the Musharaka Forum, IFES and its local partners have been able to establish a beacon of hope and optimism where few others have realized success and meaningful impact.

Elections in Thailand: 2016 Constitutional Referendum
On August 7, Thai citizens will vote on a new constitution and a proposal allowing an appointed 250-member Senate to join the House of Representatives in selecting a Prime Minister. In May 2014, Thailand’s military took control of the government and enacted an interim constitution to replace the 2007 constitution.
