IFES Receives Award for Innovative Disability Inclusion Practices
In recognition of its efforts to advance the political rights of persons with disabilities worldwide, IFES will be receiving two Innovative Practice Awards from the Zero Project in February 2019. The Zero Project provides a platform for sharing innovative solutions to barriers faced by persons with disabilities around the world, and the two tools selected for the award include IFES’ Election Access Observation Toolkit and its Electoral Sign Language Lexicon.

Promoting the Political Empowerment of Youth with Disabilities in the Dominican Republic
On December 13, 27 Dominican youth with disabilities celebrated completing the Engaging a New Generation for Accessible Governance and Elections course at the Iberoamerican University (UNIBE) in Santo Domingo. The eight-week course on leadership and political processes was developed through collaboration between IFES, UNIBE and the Disability Alliance for Our Rights as part of the United States Agency for International Development-funded project, “Political Leadership of Youth with Disabilities in the Dominican Republic.”

Electoral Assessment
Political Participation of Women and Men with Disabilities in Tunisia: An IFES Assessment
Over a two-week period around Tunisia's 2018 municipal elections, IFES conducted a disability rights assessment mission to look at the barriers and opportunities related to political participation of women and men with disabilities, focusing primarily on the preparations for and conduct of the elections. IFES’ focus group participants identified a number of recommendations for Tunisian stakeholders, and the resulting assessment is available for download in English and Arabic and in Arabic audio format.
