Elections in Libya: June 25 Council of Representatives Elections
On June 25, Libyans return to the polls for the second time this year to elect 200 members to the Council of Representatives (CoR).There are a total of 1,714 candidates registered, including 149 candidates running for 32 seats reserved for women and 1,565 candidates, including three women, running for general seats.
The CoR is an interim legislative authority tasked with deciding on a method to elect an interim President, drafting a new election law and issuing the new constitution, which must be approved by two-thirds of Libyan voters. As such, the CoR elections mark an important step in Libya's transition.
