The “Voter Fraud Prevention Handbook” was published in California in September of 1996 in lead up to the November 5th presidential election between incumbent Democrat Bill Clinton and Republican Nominee Bob Dole. The booklet contains sections on proper registration procedure, ballots counting, “campaign dos and don’ts” as well as a section on the initiative process and a list of phone numbers to call if one has further questions.

“Bowling Together” is a July 22nd, 1996 Time Magazine article by Richard Stengel in which Stengel responds to Robert Putnam’s 1995 article “Bowling Alone” that argues that traditional civic engagement in America has been on the decline. Stengel counters by arguing that civic engagement has not disappeared, but has instead been reinvented and provides evidence from around the country to support his position.
