La Citoyenneté
“La Citoyenneté” is a booklet from August 1997, available in French, which is made up of a comic strip and text explaining to government structure in Guinea and the rights guaranteed to Guinean citizens. The document, published by SLECG (Syndicat Libre des Enseignants et Chercheurs de Guinee), states that the objective of the comic strip is the encourage youth to take a greater role in politics and their civic duties in order to deepen the state of democracy in Guinea.

Public Opinion in Kazakhstan 1996
This report analyzes the public opinion environment in Kazakhstan – the views of the public on political and economic developments, the performance of the government, and civic and political organizations. Findings are based on the IFES country-wide opinion survey fielded in Kazakhstan in November-December 1996. The Executive Summary provides an overview of the survey data and the Interpretation and Forecast section discusses the data in terms of the processes of political change underway and the likely implications for assistance in promoting democracy and development. The presentation of the survey results is organized thematically, reporting opinion on: • Conditions in the Country • Economy • Government • Civil Society • Information • Ethnic Relations The Appendix includes the complete question text and the marginal results in tabular form with comparisons, where applicable, to data from an IFES-sponsored nationally representative public opinion survey fielded in July, 1995.

Guide d'education civique et morale
“Guide d’education civique et morale” is a guide from September 1996, available in French, with the goal of educating students on civic culture, democracy and peace. The document, published by SLECG (Syndicat Libre des Enseignants et Chercheurs de Guinee), seeks to form conscientious citizens of Guinea by helping the youth develop a sense of morality and civic duty – it provides different methods for doing so such as lessons and exercises to be done in school.

The article “Policy, Politology, Student School of Leadership” written by Ivan Prokopov and translated into English discusses the significance of the creation of the Academy of Management on the campus of the Institute of Economy in Kazakhstan. Printed on May 22nd, 1996 in the Kazakhstani newspaper Kazakstanskya Pravda, Prokopov’s article emphasizes the importance of analyzing political parties and their effect on the country’s economy as well as the economy of other nations in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

How Students Elected a president
In May of 1996, Altay Kozhaev wrote this article in the New Generation, entitled “How Students Elected a President,” which discusses a political game played by Kazakh first and second graders in a local school. Kozhaev explains the game, conducted in the frame “Days of Political Science,” and continues to present the election process of these students as a serious one, emphasizing to the Kazakh people the importance of political education in Kazakh youth. This article is provided in both English and Russian.

“We do Not Want to be Apolitical” is an article, originally available in Russian and translated into English, written in 1996 by Natalya Vorobtsova, Aliya Rustemova in the “Kazakhstanskaya Pravda” newspaper in Kazakhstan and which briefly describes a political science game organized by Gulnara Kanapievna in Kazakhstan. The article also touches on the importance of having young people actively participate and understand the political life of the country.

“Connaissez vos droits” is a booklet from 1996, available in French, with the objective of providing support to human rights NGOs in Guinea by informing citizens of their rights. The document, published by the Guinean Organization for the Defense of Human Rights, is made up of images and different sections that explain the right to a fair trial, what an illegal detention is, and the rights of a prisoner in Guinea.

Overview: National Surveys of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan
IFES conducted surveys in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in 1995. The public opinion survey is part of its election administration and voter education support project in Central Asia. The topics in the surveys include a range of issues related to development of multi-party politics, legal reform, non-governmental organizations, and the election system in each country.
