Elections on Trial Project: Inaugural Meeting of the Europe and Eurasia Electoral Jurisprudence Working Group
IFES is working to establish peer networks in Europe and Eurasia and Africa, supported by the United States Agency for International Development. Regional knowledge exchange allows judges and election commissioners to discuss best practices and share comparative examples of how other countries deal with specific categories of complaints and disputes.

Empowerment and Inclusion Through Youth Democracy Camps in Kyrgyzstan
IFES recently completed two annual summer democracy camps for youth ages 14-19 in Kyrgyzstan. This year’s camps build upon IFES’ legacy of more than 20 years of democracy camps, with over 80 camps conducted across the world, including 50 in Kyrgyzstan alone.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) manages local elections within 20 local government areas in Nigeria, serving over 6 million registered voters, the most of any state in the country. With IFES support, LASIEC is developing a five-year strategic plan to address gaps in its capacity to deliver on its mandate.

Planning Underway for 2019 Nigerian General Elections
With presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for February 16, 2019, Nigerian election officials are looking to build on the successful, peaceful transfer of power that came with the 2015 national elections. Early planning and preparations are well underway, and IFES is supporting the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria on myriad fronts to foster an effective, credible electoral process.

Photo Gallery: 2017 Kyrgyz Republic Presidential Elections
On October 15, the Kyrgyz Republic held presidential elections. This was a historic vote; the first “regular” transition of power from a sitting president who has completed a constitutionally defined term of office to an elected successor. Prime Minister Sooronbay Jeenbekov, who is backed by outgoing President Almazbek Atambayev’s Social Democratic party, won the election with 54.3 percent of the about 1.7 million votes cast.
