Advancing Inclusive Democracy in Tunisia Through New Technologies
To make electoral information available to Tunisians who are deaf or hard-of-hearing in the runup to the 2019 national elections, IFES developed a sign language lexicon of nearly 200 electoral concepts and a companion smartphone application.

Bougainville Referendum Results Announced
Voting in the Bougainville referendum concluded with the announcement of results on December 11. A majority of voters selected independence, at 97.7 percent of the vote. While the referendum is not outcome-determining, the results will contribute to bilateral negotiations between the Autonomous Bougainville Government and Papua New Guinea Government.

Since 2007 when the United Nations General Assembly designated September 15th as the International Day of Democracy, organizations – governmental and nongovernmental – have joined with others to commemorate the importance of promoting and upholding principles of democracy. Participatory Budgeting Project to Be Implemented in Mexico City
On June 4, leaders of the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) visited IFES' headquarters to sign an agreement that marks the next phase of their longstanding partnership. With this “Enhancing Citizen Participation in Mexico City” agreement, the IECM will welcome IFES’ expertise for research on comparative experiences in participatory budgeting, and the organizations will work together to produce civil society workshops in Mexico City on participatory budgeting and domestic election observation.
