Your Guide to Voting in the 1996 General Election
“Your Guide to Voting in the 1996 General Elections” was published by Elections, New Zealand in 1996 in preparation for the October 12th, 1999 general elections. This booklet provides voter enrollment information, voting procedures, maps of electorates, a complete listing of polling stations, and common questions and answers. The voting instructions are provided in English, Chinese, Tongan, Korean, Maori, Cook Island Maori, Samoan, Tokelauan, and Niuean. A party list and a sample ballot are also provided in this booklet.

The handbook explores the importance of the municipal government; it describes what a municipality consists of, its functions and the relation between the central government and the municipal government. It also describes the attributions of the municipal council and how citizens can participate in the decision making process.

“Civic Guide” is a civic education guide, available in Spanish, issued in 1996 in Paraguay in an effort to guide Paraguayans on following the necessary steps required to be issued identity cards, the only document that allows voters to exercise their right to vote. The guide explains the procedure and lists the documents needed in order for anyone residing in Paraguay to be able to receive their identity cards.

“Citizen’s Guide to Evaluate the Municipality” is an educational handbook, available in Spanish, issued in 1996 by the “Decidamos” Public Expression Campaign in Panama and intended to familiarize Paraguayan civil society about the attributions and responsibilities of the municipal government. The document explains and describes the general aspects of the municipality (the meaning itself, the territory that forms a municipality, its functions, relations between the municipal government and the central one), as well as it explains the attributions of the municipal government (the ways it is governed, its authorities etc).
