Kosovo Taking Steps Toward Gender Equality in Election Administration
The issue of low representation of women among Kosovo's election staff was raised for the first time in March 2014 in IFES' report on gender breakdown of election staff in the 2013 municipal elections. A series of advocacy efforts was carried out to raiss awareness of the benefits of gender diversity in election staff and to encourage the nomination of more women to these positions.

Elections in Kosovo: 2017 Local Elections
Kosovo will hold elections on October 22, to elect municipal mayors and municipal assembly deputies in all 38 districts. Run-off elections will be held on November 19 in municipalities where no mayoral candidate obtains 50 percent plus one of all votes in the first round. For municipal assembly elections, voting is done through an open list proportional representation system in which voters select a political party and a candidate. Parties are then allocated seats in proportion to their share of votes.

Egyptian Students Visit IFES as Part of ACYPL Exchange Program
On September 7, IFES hosted a delegation of eight Egyptian college students to discuss projects in Egypt and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Visiting the United States as part of the American Council of Young Political Leaders’ “Model American Congress” exchange program, the delegation took part in a question and answer session with President and CEO Bill Sweeney, MENA Regional Director Zeinab Abdelkarim, and IFES Egypt program staff.

Elections in Kosovo: 2017 Parliamentary Elections
Kosovo will hold extraordinary elections on June 11 to fill the 120 seats in the Assembly of Kosovo. While the next parliamentary election was scheduled for mid-2018, the Assembly adopted a no-confidence vote in the government of Prime Minister Isa Mustafa on May 10, 2017, triggering an early election. After consultations with the various political parties, President Hashim Thaçi announced that the elections would take place on June 11.

IFES Kosovo Works to Engage Youth in Political and Electoral Processes
To increase youth participation in, and awareness of, political and electoral issues in Kosovo, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) implemented an intensive program, which included mock debates, election simulations, and meetings with political entities. The information from these reports will be used by Kosovo’s Central Election Commission and civil society organizations to develop their public outreach strategies and to identify which groups of voters will need more effective targeting and motivation.
