Workshop Success Stories in Kosovo
Community attitudes and a lack of access to information and infrastructure, particularly buildings and transport, are significant barriers that the estimated 200,000 persons with disabilities in Kosovo face. As part of a project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and its partner Kosovar civil society organizations (CSOs), Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) and HandiKOS, are working to develop a more inclusive electoral process.

IFES Conducts Comprehensive Gender Analysis in Kosovo
Being employed as a polling official is recognized as a critical part of women’s participation in political and electoral processes. In March 2014, IFES analyzed the gender composition of election management bodies at the municipal and precinct level during the 2013 Local Government Elections in Kosovo.

Survey
Public Opinion of Democracy Issues in Kosovo: Findings from an IFES August 2012 Survey
From August 17-29, 2012, IFES partner Index Kosova conducted fieldwork and data processing to determine public opinion in Kosovo. The survey covered a sample size of 1,520 Kosovars and aimed to understand the adult population’s knowledge of key components of the election process; measure awareness on current electoral reform processes; analyze attitudes toward political participation; and measure citizen’s perceptions of the Central Election Commission.

Kosovo Civic Education Campaign
In the fall of 2012, IFES collaborated with six local partners in Kosovo to launch “Participate,” a civic education campaign aimed at increasing public awareness on democratic values. This includes independent voting; the role of women, youth and minority groups in election processes; roles and responsibilities of election management bodies; and electoral complaints. The campaign reached 33,883 voters through face-to-face activities; distributed 87,482 informational brochures, pamphlets and other printed material; and reached over 600,000 Kosovars through TV and radio programs, as well as newspaper articles. IFES Yemen Survey: Briefing Report 2012
Following Yemen's early presidential election in February 2012, IFES conducted a nationwide survey of voting-age adults in Yemen. Survey questions were designed to assess attitudes toward the 2012 presidential election and satisfaction with the current situation in Yemen by measuring availability of information leading up to the election and public perceptions of the electoral process.

Media Centers: Serving Democracy Through the Press
As the global leader in democracy promotion, IFES has helped election management bodies (EMBs) around the world set up media centers to facilitate the flow of information and enhance transparency in the electoral process. A media center allows EMBs, the authoritative sources of election news, to distribute real-time information to local and foreign journalists, including updates on the progress of voting and preliminary announcements of election results. For elections, independent media serve to underscore key issues, shed light on candidates and political parties, provide voter education and keep the population updated on electoral developments.
