Regional Europe Office Holds Successful First Virtual Event in Light of Pandemic
On March 24, IFES held “Slovak Parliamentary Elections in an Era of Disinformation: Post-Election Debrief” as a virtual meeting. The event demonstrated that despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there are effective ways for the international community to come together and carry on a meaningful dialogue on salient issues.

IFES Organizes Training on Countering Disinformation in Elections in Panama
On April 8-9, IFES implemented a workshop on “Electoral Coverage in an Era of Disinformation” in Panama City for 48 journalists, candidate representatives and Electoral Tribunal (TE) staff. The interactive workshop was organized in partnership with the TE and funded by the United States Embassy in Panama.

Promoting Regional Cooperation in Latin America to Fight Fake News
With the spread of fake news undermining electoral processes worldwide, it has become crucial for the success and security of elections that authorities learn how to identify and counter misinformation efforts. Multi-Stakeholder Working Group Conducts Polling Station Accessibility Audit in Macedonia
In August 2017, the State Election Commission of Macedonia (SEC), in collaboration with eight civil society organizations, including disabled people’s organizations, the Ministry for Labour and Social Policy, the Organization for Security and Co‑operation in Europe and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), carried out the first nationwide polling station accessibility audit. The working group, which used a modified version of IFES’ polling station accessibility checklist, visited 2,733 polling stations, out of a total of 3,480.
