Elections 1999: Ensuring Free and Fair Elections
The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa distributed this flyer on voting procedure in advance of the 1999 national elections. The material notifies prospective voters as to where they can vote, when they can vote and if they are eligible to vote. The literature also walks them through the physical process of voting.

Elections 1999 Register to Vote
The eve of the 1999 national elections in South Africa saw a concerted effort to energize and engage the electorate. The “Election 1999 Register to Vote” pamphlet was part of this effort and contains information regarding who may register, the importance of voting as well as a few numbers related to the 1994 elections which saw an 86% voter turnout.

Facts for Voters 1999
“Facts for Voters 1999” is a voter brochure published in 1999 by the League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area, in lead up to the 1999 Elections and is intended to familiarize voters with the contact information of the members of the Cities and Towns, County and State offices. Additionally, it contains voting information, such as voter registration, voter qualifications, absentee voting and an Election Calendar with the most important dates of the 1999 Elections.

This 1999 edition of the Pinellas County publication “The Election Connection,” provides some updates for the 1999-2000 local and national elections. The two page flyer contains a section highlighting several elections in which only one vote has made a significance difference as well as biography on Sallie Parks the commissioner of Pinellas County. Also contained in the literature is an update for the countywide special elections that will be held on November 2, 1999.

Join Us in Campaigning for a Just Domestic Relations Law
“Join Us in Campaigning for a Just Domestic Relations Law” is a pamphlet that was published in September of 1999 by the Ugandan Women’s Network. The pamphlet outlines the “Domestic Rights Bill,” a bill that was aimed at creating a more equitable legal status for women and in doing so create more stability in the household. Specifically the bill advocated for defining adultery as gender neutral, cementing the age one can consent to marriage at 18 years and recognizing that mental and physiological violence can be considered grounds for divorce.

Politics for Generation X
“Politics for Generation X” is an article from the August 1999 edition of the “Atlantic Monthly;” it was written by Ted Halstead. The piece operates around the premise that young adults are the most politically unengaged members of the population and that a new agenda must be formulated to reengage them. Halstead investigates often incongruent value set of Generation X and then seeks to form a political agenda round them. This agenda includes solutions to balancing the budget, helping the little guy and solving global warming.

The Association of African Election Authorities (AAEA) and the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES) undertook a joint mission to observe the December 5, 1998 local government elections in Nigeria. This final report on the December 5 elections, and of the monitoring of the immediate postelection period presents the observations of the AAEA/IFES missions with the aim to contribute to the preparations for future elections.

This report is based on the findings of IFES long-term monitors, who were present in Nigeria from November 1998 to April 1999, and of the AAEA/IFES missions to observe three of the four transitional elections-the local government elections on December 5, 1998; National Assembly elections on February 20, 1999; and the presidential election on February 27, 1999.
