Earlier this year, Nigeria held the world’s attention with the illness and subsequent death of President Umaru Yar'Adua. After his passing, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan assumed the presidency. In January 2011, the tenure of the current presidency will expire and Nigeria will hold presidential elections to elect the country’s next leader.

Amatora mu Mahoro: Système de monitoring des principes démocratiques et de prévention de la violence électorale 3e
Le troisième rapport Amatora Mu Mahoro (AMM), présente une analyse des incidents et des indicateurs de violence électorale, ainsi que des initiatives de paix, survenus sur l’ensemble du territoire du Burundi pendant la période du 31 mai au 4 juillet 2010. L’analyse faite des données fournies par les Points focaux du projet AMM permet de conclure que la fréquence des incidents dans les provinces a diminué, passant de 262 cas d’incidents répertoriés dans le second rapport (période du 26 avril – 30 mai) à 180 pour le présent rapport.

Focus on Morocco | Opinions on the Family Law and Gender Quotas - Topic Brief
One of the principal objectives of the SWMENA survey was to examine the level of popular support for law reforms that have the potential to enhance women’s participation in the social and political realms. The Morocco Family Law, known as the Moudawana, which was adopted in 2004, continues to draw much debate among the Moroccan populace and advocacy groups. The introduction of gender quotas in 2002 to reserve 30 seats for women on a national list in Parliament increased the representation of women in elected bodies but continues to raise questions about the effectiveness of gender quotas and how ordinary citizens felt about this system. This topic brief thus presents the main findings from the SWMENA survey on the Family Law and gender quotas.
