BRIDGE Training in Burundi
IFES-Burundi held the second in a series of BRIDGE trainings in Rutana, Burundi from April 6-9. The event brought together twenty-five members of Burundi's national and provincial electoral commission to explore topics critical to effectively prevent and manage electoral disputes. Burundi is scheduled to have communal, presidential, legislative and local elections between May and September 2010.

Democracy and Election in Africa: Almami Cyllah's Testimony to Congress
On Wednesday, March 24, 2010, Almami Cyllah, IFES regional director for Africa, testified before the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health on democracy in the African continent. Mr. Cyllah gave an overview of Africa's history with elections and how democracy fits into the continent's overall advancement. He also gave a number of important recommendations for how the United States and the international community can help Africa prosper by strengthening its democratic institutions. Sudan Civic and Voter Education Baseline Study

Nigerian Local Elections
Police in a northern Nigerian state say at least six people are dead after youth from rival political parties clashed over local election results. IFES observed the November 17 elections in Kano, one of Nigeria's 36 states.

Discussion note cards
This series of 12 note cards, published in 2007 in South Africa, were designed to facilitate discussion based workshops. The cards present everyday scenarios involving topics and situations such as urban civics, the workplace and youth in South Africa. Those circumstances are also accompanied by discussion questions that frame the topic and scene with in the context of the South African constitution and civil society.

Les vertus de la non-violence
“Les vertus de la non-violence” is a report from June 2000, available in French, which focuses on non-violence and the importance of discussion and compromise in the process of conflict resolution. The document, published by the organization Medias pour la Paix, lists the benefits of non-violence in promoting peace and development in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
