Selma Votes in Tunisia
As part of an effort to enfranchise illiterate women residing in rural areas to hold their government accountable, IFES partnered with USAID and the Tunisian Mediterranean Center to train and deploy women ambassadors in governorates with the highest illiteracy rates. These civic education ambassadors then encouraged women like Selma Sbissi, featured in a USAID video, to register and vote in the 2018 municipal elections.

On August 10, 280 young people gathered in Mandalay, Myanmar, to celebrate International Youth Day. In line with this year’s global theme of “Transforming Education,” the event kicked off IFES’ national civic and voter education program, which will engage voters from across Myanmar to take part in the electoral process ahead of the pivotal 2020 elections.

Photo Gallery: Awakening the Next Generation of Tunisian Voters
To address a lack of civic education in Tunisian schools and create an informed and civic-minded future generation, IFES developed the Democratic Awakening Toolkit. IFES produced 1,500 toolkits, which are comprised of a teaching manual, pedagogical resources and reusable materials to simulate voting in classrooms, for a pilot program in September 2018.

Increasing Youth Political Participation in Nepal
In Nepal, IFES partnered with the civil society organization Association of Youth Organizations Nepal (AYON) to implement the “Youth for Good Governance” project, which aims to build the capacity of young Nepalis to engage with elected representatives and actively participate in political processes. AYON produced and filmed a youth participation video, highlighting the importance of youth inclusion across political, social and economic sectors.
