Libyan Teachers Participate in Civic Education Curriculum Training
In partnership with the Libyan Ministry of Education, IFES conducted a training in early December 2018 for more than 120 educators from across Libya in preparation for the nationwide roll out of a new civic education curriculum for grades four through nine. The training familiarized teachers with the new curriculum developed by IFES and introduced new and interactive teaching methodologies.

Partnership with Libyan Ministry of Education to Promote Civic Education in Public Schools
On August 4, 2018, IFES and the Libyan Ministry of Education (MoE) celebrated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at underpinning future cooperation in Libya. Mobile Radio Station Reaches Half a Million Tunisian Voters
With support from the U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative, in 2017 IFES built a mobile radio station ahead of Tunisia’s municipal elections on May 6, 2018, and drove it up and down the length of Tunisia, broadcasting radio programs on elections in remote and hard-to-access areas.

Libya Pilots New Civic Education Curriculum for Students
From March 1 to 4, IFES worked with Libya’s Ministry of Education to train more than 30 Libyan teachers across the country to use and implement a new civic education curriculum for students in grades 7-9. In April, the pilot was successfully launched in 25 schools in 14 cities across Libya, and a nation-wide rollout is anticipated for the 2018/9 school year.

A Year of Elections in Nepal: Implementing a Federal and Inclusive Constitution
In 2017, record numbers of Nepali voters turned out to vote in local, provincial and national level elections to elect 35,000 Local Council representatives, including mayors and deputy mayors, 550 Provincial Assembly representatives, and 275 House of Representatives members. As envisioned by the 2015 Constitution, these elections completed Nepal’s transition from highly centralized monarchy to a federal republic with powers devolved from the center to newly established provincial and local governments.

Sri Lanka’s February 10, 2018 local government election introduced numerous changes to the electoral system. Under its U.S. Agency for International Development-funded “Improved Election Management Program,” IFES is working with the Election Commission of Sri Lanka (EC) and local partners to support implementation of inclusive voter awareness-raising programs.
