Election 1999: Register to vote
Published by the Educational Support Services Trust for the International Electoral Commission (IEC), this pamphlet serves as a last chance to educate South Africans on how to register to vote before the June 2nd, 1999 national elections. Encouragement to do so in the form of illustrations, an outline of the qualities of a democratic citizen, and a message from the Chief Electoral Officer of the IEC emphasizes the importance of voter registration and participation of the South African people.

Election 99: Your vote, your right
“Election 99: Your Vote, Your Right,” is an educational pamphlet informing South African residents of key election and political terms in preparation for the upcoming June 2nd, 1999 national elections. This pamphlet explains the elements and importance of democracy and provides definitions regarding elections, voting, and politic in order to emphasize the necessity of free and fair elections in South Africa. Also provided are voter registration and participation instructions and illustrations included in order to stimulate election awareness in the South African youth.

Elections 1999: Ensuring Free and Fair Elections
The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa distributed this flyer on voting procedure in advance of the 1999 national elections. The material notifies prospective voters as to where they can vote, when they can vote and if they are eligible to vote. The literature also walks them through the physical process of voting.

The eve of the 1999 national elections in South Africa saw a concerted effort to energize and engage the electorate. The “Election 1999 Register to Vote” pamphlet was part of this effort and contains information regarding who may register, the importance of voting as well as a few numbers related to the 1994 elections which saw an 86% voter turnout.
