IFES Kicks Off BRIDGE Training in Niger
In September 2010, IFES hosted a showcase of BRIDGE training programs in Niger. The showcase introduced BRIDGE — which stands for Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections — to Nigerien elections officials and representatives from international partner organizations who will participate in more extensive training during the coming year. The professional development modules and activities that comprise BRIDGE have been used around the world to help local and national administrators develop the skills and abilities to carry out fair, efficient elections. IFES’ work with the Nigerien Commission Electoral Nationale Indepéndante (CENI) during the 2010-2011 election process marks the first time BRIDGE has been offered in Niger.

IFES Returns to Work with Liberia's National Elections Commission
IFES has been awarded a five‐year cooperative agreement by USAID to support various upcoming elections in Liberia: the constitutional referendum, by‐elections, and national and local elections. These polls are of particular importance because of their central role in supporting the country’s continued transition from a devastated, conflict‐torn nation to one that is slowly building the democratic systems, institutions, and processes needed to promote long‐term stability and development.

Public Opinion in Azerbaijan 2005: Findings from a Public Opinion Survey
IFES’ 2005 survey in Azerbaijan reveals a pessimistic public opinion with respect to several key issues than the 2004 survey. The results suggest that most Azerbaijanis are dissatisfied with the economic and overall situation in the country, indicating an importance placed on economic concerns by most of the respondents. Moreover, many Azerbaijanis do not think that their country is a democracy. Corruption continues to be a serious issue, as a majority of Azerbaijanis report paying bribes for medical care, grades and passports or other official documents. Despite this dissatisfaction, interest in politics has steadily risen over the past 3 years. Following the survey, IFES also conducted a series of focus groups with people interested in politics, and some findings from the focus groups are also included in this report.

Political Finance in Post-Conflict Societies
This study of political finance in post-conflict society identifies lessons learned from international donor-funded efforts to support political processes in post-conflict environments in general and the funding of political parties and campaign finance in particular. The document consists of eight case studies that seek to improve our understanding not only of the political dynamics of post-conflict situations but also of how to rally international support for holding elections and supporting democratization under such circumstances.
