Kids Voting: Could It Make a Difference
This booklet is a summary of the “Kids Voting: Could It Make a Difference,” program. The program was aimed at making young children interested in the voting process in hopes that they would grow up to be more engaged in politics. The program also hoped to have a positive impact on the children’s parents’ voter participation. One aspect of the program was to allow parents to bring their children to the polling stations. The results indicated a 70.3% turnout in “Kids Voting” precincts, an average of 2.7% higher than precincts that did not implement the program. This program was conducted in 1988, the year of the presidential election between George H.W. Bush and Michael Dukakis held on November 8th.
