“Your Vote Your Voice” is a 1999 publication by the National Association of Independent Colleges. The Booklet address voter education, coalition building, “get out the vote,” and the time table for the 2000 presidential election. “Referendum , Plebiscite and Popular Initiative” is an informative guidebook, available in Spanish, issued in 1999 by the Electoral Council of the State of Jalisco in Mexico, and it is intended to inform citizens about the mechanisms of direct democracy that were adopted in Jalisco with the constitutional approval of the referendum, the popular initiative and the promulgation of the Citizen Participation Law in 1998. The guidebook explains the concepts and characteristics of referendum and popular initiative.

The Power of your vote
“The Power of your vote” was published in 1999 on the eve of the South African national elections. This Independent Electoral Commission publication urged the South African electorate to continue strengthening the democratic process by voting. Graphic illustrations, including comic strips, were used to augment voter efficacy and overall democratic awearness.

The Youth Vote
This document analyzes trends in youth voting from 1971 onward. The piece purposely picks 1971 as it was the year which the 26th amendment was passed. That amendment moved the age for universal suffrage from 21 to 18 years of age. This 1999 study provides statistical breakdowns of youth voting figures as well as an analysis of what the data suggests. Also included is a chapter on why youth don’t vote; that section also acknowledges that voter turnout has been on the decline since the 1960s.

Vas-y! Fais ta marque
“Vas-y! Fais ta marque” is a leaflet from 1999, available in a French and English copy, which encourages the Canadian youth to register their names to the national register of electors list so that they may vote in the upcoming Federal Election of 2000 in Canada. The document, published by Elections Canada, provides a brief overview of what readers have to do in order to register to vote, emphasizing how easy it is to participate in political elections.

“Voter 1999” was produced in St. Louis County, Missouri by the city’s Board of Election Commissioners in lead up to that year’s general elections. The piece goes over voter identification, registration, absentee voting and also provides voters with a synopsis of key dates in the election season. The pamphlet also covers information related to registering if you have recently changed your name or domicile.

Project Literacy’s "Voter Education Programme” is a lesson plan geared at educating the South African public on South Africa’s path to democracy. Included in the 1999 literature are sections on the South African bill of rights, the three tiers of government and the voting process. Also provided are discussion questions aimed at creating a discourse on such topics as “how laws have changed since South Africa became a democratic country.”
