Democracia para los jovens
“Democracy for the Youth” is a youth voter informative booklet, available in Spanish, issued in 1996 by the National Electoral Council of Colombia, and intended to help the Colombian youth understand the meaning and implications of a democratic society and why one should prefer it over the other forms of government; to learn about the separation of the three branches of power, as well as how to integrate oneself into a political party or movement. The booklet is meant to trigger the youths’ desire to participate in the building of a more democratic Colombia by educating them to fully understand the importance of having a democratic society and its attributes.

“From Citizen to Citizen: 7” is the October edition of the “Citizen to Citizen” informative bulletin, available in Spanish, issued in 1996 by the Citizens’ Movement for Democracy group in Mexico and intended to familiarize Mexicans with the news regarding the matter of the electoral system in Mexico and civic responsibilities and rights. “Accessible Facilities: How to Make Voting more Accessible” is a guide from 1996, available in a French and English copy, meant to help election officials make the polling sites more accessible to handicapped voters so they may vote in the upcoming Federal Elections. “Getting to Know the Civic History of Mexico 5” is an informative booklet, available in Spanish, published in 1996 by the Federal Electoral Institute, and it presents the civic historical facts and personalities throughout the months of January- March. The pamphlet is meant to amplify the knowledge of Mexican citizens regarding the most important happenings that have shaped the creation of Mexico, its identity and its historical memories that have been significant factors in the building of a democratic culture in Mexico. Some of the events mentioned are: the adoption of the Agrarian Law in January, 1915 and the Tlatelolco Treaty of February 1967.

Bowling Together
“Bowling Together” is a July 22nd, 1996 Time Magazine article by Richard Stengel in which Stengel responds to Robert Putnam’s 1995 article “Bowling Alone” that argues that traditional civic engagement in America has been on the decline. Stengel counters by arguing that civic engagement has not disappeared, but has instead been reinvented and provides evidence from around the country to support his position.
