““Citizen Participation”: Newsletter March 1998” is an informative periodical, available in Spanish, issued in March of 1998 by the “Citizen Participation” movement in the Dominican Republic. The periodical contains various articles of recent activities and future plans of “Citizen Participation,” a non partisan civic movement organization. One of the articles addresses the topic of youth participation in the electoral observation and the importance of involving them into the electoral process.

Las Elecciones Congesionales y Municipales y La Participation Ciudadana
“The Congressional and Municipal Elections and the Citizen Participation” is an informational booklet, available in Spanish, issued in 1998 by the “Citizen Participation” movement in the Dominican Republic, in lead up to the May 1998 Congressional and Municipal Elections in the Dominican Republic. In the first chapter of the booklet one can find the description of the Dominican Electoral System and its history, the meaning of the attributes of voting, and an insight into the role of the electoral authorities. The second chapter thoroughly describes the upcoming 1998 Municipal and Congressional Elections, while the next two chapters explain the role of citizens’ participation through the act of voting in the decision-making process of the Dominican society. Additionally, the booklet contains a table with the numbers of officials to be elected for each locality.

Guide to Voters on Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan
“Guide to Voters on Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan” is an informative brochure, available in both Kazakh and Russian, published in 1998 by the Central Electoral Commission in Kazakhstan, in lead up to the January 10, 1999 Presidential Election in Kazakhstan. The document is a guide explaining voters some of the following election-related topics: the structure and function of the electoral system, voters’ rights and responsibilities, rules and procedures for the elections, as well as instructions on how to fill out a ballot.

“Electoral Observation: Network of Electoral Observers. 1998 Congressional and Municipal Elections” is an informational brochure, available in Spanish, issued in 1998 by the “Citizen Participation” movement in the Dominican Republic, in lead up to the 1998 Congressional and Municipal Elections. The brochure describes the civil society electoral observation promoted by the “Citizen Participation” movement. The brochure explains the meaning of citizen participation and electoral observation on the part of the civil society.

“General Statutes: Citizens’ Participation” is an informational brochure, available in Spanish, believed to be issued in 1997 by the “Citizen Participation” movement in the Dominican Republic. The brochure describes the general ordinances for membership and internal activities of the civic movement organization called “Citizen Participation.” The brochure is comprised of six chapters indicating the goals, membership, structure and general dispositions of the organization, followed by a lay out of the declaration of principles that stand at the organization’s foundation of functioning.

Public Opinion in Kazakhstan 1996
This report analyzes the public opinion environment in Kazakhstan – the views of the public on political and economic developments, the performance of the government, and civic and political organizations. Findings are based on the IFES country-wide opinion survey fielded in Kazakhstan in November-December 1996. The Executive Summary provides an overview of the survey data and the Interpretation and Forecast section discusses the data in terms of the processes of political change underway and the likely implications for assistance in promoting democracy and development. The presentation of the survey results is organized thematically, reporting opinion on: • Conditions in the Country • Economy • Government • Civil Society • Information • Ethnic Relations The Appendix includes the complete question text and the marginal results in tabular form with comparisons, where applicable, to data from an IFES-sponsored nationally representative public opinion survey fielded in July, 1995.
