IFES Honors Alan Wall with 2019 Joe C. Baxter Award
IFES' annual Joe C. Baxter Award recognizes the contributions of election professionals whose skills and dedication to the field of election administration epitomize the mission of IFES and embody the spirit of former IFES Senior Adviser for Election Administration Joe C. Baxter. On May 16, IFES presented the 2019 Baxter Award to Alan Wall, a senior elections adviser and former IFES chief of party.

BRIDGE Train-the-Facilitators Workshop Held in Haiti
From March 18-28, IFES partnered with Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council to conduct a Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections (BRIDGE) train-the-facilitators workshop in Port-au-Prince. The training aims to give participants the opportunity to learn more about the management and operations of electoral processes and expand their training capabilities.

Update of Haiti’s National Strategy on Gender and Elections
IFES is working with local women’s and human rights organizations in Haiti to update the National Strategy on Gender and Elections (SNGE) ahead of the country’s October 2019 legislative elections. On January 15, IFES conducted a workshop that served as a platform for representatives from these organizations to provide input on and suggest changes to each of the seven themes addressed by the SNGE.

Engaging Deaf Communities Through Electoral Sign Language Lexicons
As part of its commitment to meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in political and public life, IFES is collaborating with Gallaudet University to develop a Haitian sign language lexicon of key election-related terms for publication on ElectionAccess.org. On November 2, 2018, the two organizations co-hosted an event on best practices for making elections around the world inclusive of Deaf communities.
