Women’s Political Participation in Honduras
A guiding principle of democracy is social and political inclusion. However, the full participation of women in public life is an ongoing issue in many countries, and Honduras is no exception, despite progress made in recent years. As part of the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening’s (CEPPS) 2012-2013 Honduras project, IFES and NDI completed the study Women’s Political Participation in Honduras. This publication provides recommendations to improve women’s participation in public decision making circles.

Elections in Honduras: November 18 Primary Elections
On November 18, 2012, Hondurans will elect candidates from three major parties – the Liberal Party, the National Party and the Liberty and Refoundation Party – to compete in next year’s general elections for the presidency and vice presidency, and open seats in the Central American Parliament, National Congress, and municipal councils. Haiti’s Much Improved Second Round of Elections
On March 20, Haiti held the second round of presidential and legislative elections following the close and controversial first-round presidential vote in November. As part of its technical assistance to the CEP, and in close cooperation with other partners, IFES organized a public information campaign, called “Where to Vote”, which reminded voters to check their registration information, confirm the location of their polling station and cast their ballots on Election Day.

Haiti’s Upcoming Elections
On November 28, Haiti will have the first round of presidential and parliamentary elections. These polls will determine who will be the country’s next president before the current government’s tenure expires in early February 2011. It will also allow for the replacement of a third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives whose term expired last May.
