Hack4Democracy Supports Tunisian Youth Civic Engagement
Tunisian youth played a significant role in the lead up to the 2011 revolution. Despite being at the forefront, many young Tunisians now feel that the gains of the revolution were stolen from them, with the older generation benefitting while youth remain politically and economically marginalized. IFES and the Tunisian Youth Forum are working to transform Tunisian youth’s online engagement into active civic engagement through an innovative new initiative called Hack4Democracy camps.

IFES Elects Three New Members to its Board of Directors
IFES is pleased to announce the election of Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Cleta Mitchell and foreign policy expert Rodney Bent to its Board of Directors. “Senator Portman, Ms. Mitchell and Mr. Bent join the IFES Board at a time of great uncertainty in the democracy promotion space. Tunisia's Election Commission Organizes Global Campaign Finance Conference
On March 28, Tunisia’s High Independent Authority for Elections (ISIE) organized an international conference on the financing of political life during electoral periods with support from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), the United Nations Development Programme, the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission. The conference provided an opportunity to examine key issues related to campaign finance through the lens of the French, Mexican, Canadian and Tunisian campaign finance systems.

IFES Elects New Bipartisan Board Leadership, Recognizes Departing Board Members and Welcomes New Members
IFES today announced the election of the Hon. J. Kenneth Blackwell as chairman of its Board of Directors. Donald R. Sweitzer, the previous chairman of the Board, was elected as co-chairman. Amb. Blackwell, a Republican, and Sweitzer, a Democrat, will lead the IFES Board of Directors in an expression of the Board’s bipartisan nature. The Board also elected William J. Hybl, a Republican and former IFES chairman, and the Hon. Barbara B. Kennelly, a Democrat who has been an IFES Board member since 2003, as vice-chairs; June Langston DeHart as treasurer; and Thomas A. Devine as secretary.
