IFES Announces Recipients of 2015 Democracy Awards
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) will honor former Chairman Attahiru Jega of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Congressman Ed Royce (R-Calif.) with its 2015 Charles T. Manatt Democracy Award.

“Election Guide” is a voter guide published in 1970 by the Pennsylvania Department of State, in lead up to the May 19, 1970 General Primary Election and the November 3, 1970 General Election, and intended to provide voters with general information on elections, voter registration, how to run for office, how to vote by absentee ballot, expenses accounts, and the ways elections are held. Women’s Leadership Training in the Maldives
From February 10-12, 2015, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) conducted a Women’s Leadership Training in the Maldives for 28 female representatives from each of the country’s four main political parties; gender focal points at various government offices; and female managers from government bodies as well as the private sector. The training – informed by a needs assessment conducted in the weeks prior to the event – provided participants with a rare opportunity for women to come together across political party lines; learn about domestic violence laws in the Maldives; and build a strong women’s network.

Money and Elections in the Maldives
IFES conducted the first systematic nationwide survey of its kind in the Maldives. The survey was conducted to measure the prevalence of vote buying in the Maldives during the March 2014 parliamentary elections. The final report, Money and Election in Maldives: Perceptions and Reality, will be shared with the Government, the Parliament, the Election Commission, civil society, political parties and others.

IFES hosted the 2014 U.S. Election Program which featured lively presentations and discussions about the nuances and idiosyncrasies of the U.S. electoral system. Watch the videos of the main plenary sessions, examining the future of political finance regulation, the role of the federal government in enforcing voting rights, legislation that expands the political rights of persons with disabilities in the U.S., challenges and opportunities for women’s participation in U.S. politics, and a wide range of other issues.

Highlights of the 2014 USEP
From November 2-5, 2014, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) gathered nearly 150 participants from 55 countries for the 2014 U.S. Election Program (USEP). This year’s USEP was the 12th hosted by IFES since 1992. This flagship event brings together election officials, parliamentarians and diplomats from around the world to observe and learn about the U.S. electoral system as well as discuss elections and voting from comparative international perspectives.
