Partnering to Implement International Anti-Corruption Commitments
Last month, IFES participated in the Eighth Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption in Abu Dhabi. Earlier in the year, the IFES Regional Europe Office hosted an Expert Group Meeting on Transparency in Political Finance in support of resolutions taken by the conference in 2017.

European Election Management Bodies Participate in Second Electoral Technology and Cyber-Hygiene Course
Following the success of its June 2019 pilot course, IFES welcomed 12 election management body representatives for its second iteration of the Electoral Technology and Cyber-Hygiene course. Participants spent four days learning the use of technology in elections, how to integrate safe cyber behavior into their work and how to mitigate online harassment and violence against women in elections.

Bougainville Referendum Results Announced
Voting in the Bougainville referendum concluded with the announcement of results on December 11. A majority of voters selected independence, at 97.7 percent of the vote. While the referendum is not outcome-determining, the results will contribute to bilateral negotiations between the Autonomous Bougainville Government and Papua New Guinea Government.
