Gender Equality & Election Management Bodies: A Best Practices Guide
The full participation of women and men in a country's political and decision-making processes as voters, candidates, elected officials and electoral management body (EMB) staff is crucial. Yet, despite a set of robust international instruments and many positive developments in recent years, women represent only 21.7 percent of world's parliamentarians and in many countries they continue to be marginalized and underrepresented in political and electoral processes. Clearly, major steps still need to be taken before true gender equality is achieved in this arena.

IFES Civics Course Alum Serves as Precinct Election Commissioner
Prior to participating in IFES’ Democracy and Citizenship course, Nika Markozashvili possessed only basic knowledge about citizenship and the responsibilities of citizens in a democracy. The course content had a profound impact on Markozashvili’s understanding of his role in public life. “As I passed the course, [in] time I realized my role in building democratic society,” he said.

IFES Survey Examines Priorities for Gender Advocacy in Armenia
IFES’ Applied Research Center (ARC) conducted a global survey of practitioners in gender equality and women’s empowerment in 40 countries where IFES is active. The survey identifies key issues and challenges affecting women and girls and examines priorities for advocacy on gender issues. The survey also assesses the effectiveness of women’s organizations and their capacity-building needs to improve future gender program interventions.
