Elections in Iraq: 2018 Council of Representatives Elections
On May 12, Iraq held elections for all 329 seats in the Council of Representatives (CoR). CoR members will elect the next president from among themselves within 30 days from their first convening, and the president will then select a prime minister from the majority coalition in the CoR. Timor-Leste Parliamentary Elections, July 2017: Disability Access Monitoring
For Timor-Leste's 2017 presidential and parliamentary elections, IFES supported local disabled people’s organization Ra’es Hadomi Timor Oan (RHTO) to conduct disability access monitoring. For the parliamentary elections, RHTO deployed access monitors in every municipality and deployed monitors in the capital city for the presidential election. Iraq has undergone dramatic change in the past decade. The U.S.-led war in Iraq that began in 2003, and the subsequent de-Ba’athification process led by the Coalition Provisional Authority, spike in sectarianism, advancement by the Islamic State (IS) and push by the Kurds for independence, all continue to impact the country’s political and security environment. It is within this complex context that the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) worked in Iraq for the 12 years, providing capacity building for Iraq’s election system from 2003 until September 2015.

Elections in Timor-Leste: 2017 Presidential Elections
On March 20, Timorese citizens will vote to elect their next president. Eight candidates will by vying for the presidency in this election. If no candidate receives at least 50 percent plus one of the valid votes in the first round, a second round will be held on April 20, 2017. The 2017 presidential election is the first national election to be managed by the National Election Commission and Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration without substantial logistical support from the United Nations.
