IFES Launches Innovative Civic Education Program in the Democratic Republic of Congo
USAID recently awarded IFES a $5.2 million contract to conduct a 2‐year civic education program in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The program is designed to help fulfill the Congolese government’s commitment to a process of decentralization to reverse the country’s legacy of poor governance, corruption, and geographic inequality by bringing greater accountability and inclusion at the local level.

IFES has been awarded a USAID cooperative agreement for a 19-month $1 million program in Burundi. The project, "Promoting Peaceful and Transparent 2010 Elections in Burundi," seeks to promote peaceful and transparent presidential, legislative and communal elections in 2010. These elections are seen by many in Burundi as a pivotal element in the country’s path to continuous peace.

Application of Election Technology: Considerations for Election Administrators, Practitioners and Policy Makers
When election administration practitioners and policy makers examine the practical
interests of improving election processes and administrative procedures, invariably the
issue of technological enhancements must be considered. The introduction of various
technological systems has been widely adopted by most election bodies throughout the
world. Indeed election processes have benefited greatly from the widespread adoption of
technological platforms to enhance election administration in areas such as voter registry
management, electoral district demarcation, results and tabulation transmission and
reporting and electronic voting systems.
