“Political Advertising” is a brochure released in April 1993 by the Public Disclosure Commission of Washington State. The document outlines the requirements candidates must follow for political advertising in their campaigns. These requirements for written advertisements include areas such as sponsor identification, candidate affiliation, independent expenditures and placement and size of identifications. The brochure does not indicate whether these requirements concern a specific election in the USA.

The City of Fairfax’s annual community handbook provides residents with an alphabetically organized glossary of terms such as Tourism Information, Senior citizens, Elected Officials, and Community development and planning and the significance of those terms in regards to the city of Fairfax. “Tell it to Washington: A Guide for Citizen Action Including Congressional: Directory 1993-1994” is a 1993 pamphlet from the League of Women Voters Education Fund that explains to readers how to reach out to elected officials in order to have their voices heard. The pamphlet serves as a guide for effective communication with members of Congress and their staff: how to make personal visits, place phone calls and write letters. The document describes different branches of government that citizens can reach out to and how to do so; yet the bulk of the pamphlet is a directory of names of elected officials for the USA.

A letter from the leaders of the Natal Churches in South Africa, “Christians, Democracy, and the Elections” provided voter education as well as voter motivation in preparation for South Africa’s first ever national elections in 1994. Published by the Natal Church Group on June 10th 1993, this letter stressed how Christians in South Africa had the duty to defend democracy.

Published by the Independent Mediation Service of South Africa in 1993, “Participants’ Manual for the Voter Trainers’ Program” provides exercises to ensure fair and responsible behavior in voter trainers’ classes. This document provides a series of illustrations of different conflicts between the trainer and the trainees and asks the applicant to provide resolutions to these potential scenarios in order to test each applicant.
