Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Youth Democratic Engagement in Africa
On August 26, IFES and Nigeria-based youth civil society organization Yiaga Africa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU formalizes a partnership between the two organizations, guided by their common mission to strengthen participatory democracy, human rights and civic participation across Africa, with a particular focus on youth and electoral integrity.

Since 2007 when the United Nations General Assembly designated September 15th as the International Day of Democracy, organizations – governmental and nongovernmental – have joined with others to commemorate the importance of promoting and upholding principles of democracy. On August 10, 280 young people gathered in Mandalay, Myanmar, to celebrate International Youth Day. IFES launched the A-Spire Speakers Series in July 2019 to provide a platform for Georgian women with disabilities to share their unique stories and successes with the disability rights community, local and international stakeholders and government representatives.
