The Married Persons Equality Act
This document, published in 1997 by the Namibia Institute for Democracy, outlines the “The Married Persons Equality Act.” The acts primary goal was to abolish marital power and property law. The act outlines the legality of marriage, divorce, spousal rights to personal property and a minimum legal age to marry. Although not focusing on the electoral system this piece nevertheless is an example of the legislative process and civil society development.

“Resolution for Domestic Violence and Conflicts” is an educational brochure, available in Spanish, issued in 1996 by the “Fundacion Para la Promocion de la Mujer” foundation in Panama. The brochure describes the program of legal education addressed to familiarize citizens with their rights and the authorities that administrate justice and the legal proceedings. The brochure explains the specific objectives of the program as well as the issues it covers. The brochure is particularly addressed to the cause of reducing domestic violence and conflicts

Droits et Promotion de la Femme
“Droits et Promotion de la Femme” is a pamphlet from 1996, available in French, which seeks to explain why women in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been discriminated against and gives possible solutions in order to give women more rights and better their position in society and the economy. The document is published by a Christian group called l’Epiphanie and also touches on women’s place in the Church and spiritual solutions to the problem. Overall, the pamphlet makes the point that as democracy becomes important in Africa, countries should try and increase women’s rights in order to hold true to the values of democracy.
