The Election Commission of Thailand Meets with IFES
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) hosted a delegation from Thailand led by Chairman of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT), Mr. Supachai Somcharoen. IFES President and CEO Bill Sweeney and Regional Director for Asia-Pacific Vasu Mohan received the delegation and provided a briefing on IFES' work around the world supporting citizens’ rights to participate in free and fair elections.

IFES at the 2016 InterAction Forum
From April 18-20, 2016 InterAction, a Washington, D.C.-based organization of more than 180 members from the NGO community, hosted its annual forum. The theme of the 2016 Forum was “Engage; Learn; Build” and offered attendees more than 50 workshops, four high-level plenary sessions, as well as numerous other opportunities for participants to engage with colleagues and partners in a stimulating professional environment. The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) participated substantively in this year’s event both by co-hosting a workshop and providing an IFES expert as a discussant on an externally-hosted panel.

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and Egypt’s National Council for Disability Affairs hosted a conference in Cairo on April 12 and 13, 2016 on electoral access for persons with disabilities, with over 180 participants in attendance.

Elections in Serbia: 2016 Early Parliamentary Elections
Serbia was scheduled to hold parliamentary elections in March 2018. However, on January 17 Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić called for snap parliamentary elections on April 24 in preparation for negotiations on Serbia’s accession to the European Union (EU). Local elections will also be held in 17 municipalities in Belgrade, and Vojvodina will elect a new Assembly.
